What Makes Warhounds Different
Warhounds breaks from the XCOM template in one critical place: probability. Traditional tactics games show you a hit-chance number and ask you to gamble. Warhounds shows you the actual trajectory and asks you to think.
Deterministic Ballistics
No hidden probability rolls. If a shot misses, there is a physical reason — blocked line of sight, wrong angle, or range exceeded. Understanding the ballistics system is the core skill that separates good play from bad in Warhounds.
Destructible Cover
Every piece of cover can be eliminated by sustained fire or Grenadier ordnance. A position that feels safe at the start of a turn can be an open lane by the end. Strip enemy cover rather than flank — it is often faster and safer.
Five Operator Classes
Assault, Specialist, Sniper, Machine Gunner, and Grenadier each fill a distinct role. A well-composed squad of five — one of each class — covers approach routes and tactical gaps that any narrower mix would leave exposed.
Mobile HQ Strategy
Between missions, you run a hijacked cargo vessel — recruiting mercenaries, rotating wounded veterans through medical, managing your Intel budget, and selecting contracts. Every HQ decision shapes what the next mission looks like.
Faction Diplomacy
Four non-antagonist factions — the African People's Front, Shield Corps, Cai-Shen Corporation, and your own Warhounds PMC — each offer unique soldiers and exclusive contracts. Aligning with one can close off others; your choices are permanent.
High Lethality, Permadeath
Ten unique veteran operators can be permanently killed in action. Losing a veteran removes their abilities and story arc from the entire campaign. Managing the bench — keeping recruits ready, rotating wounded vets — is as critical as winning any firefight.
The result is a loop where tactical understanding compounds over the campaign. Your ballistics knowledge informs your class composition, your class composition shapes your base loadout decisions, your base decisions determine which factions you can build toward, and your faction alliances define the contracts and operators available for the next engagement. Each layer connects.
